konservasi yang aneh

Saya lagi baca satu buku tentang community based conservation. Ada satu ‘case study’ yang ingin saya kutip untuk di share… semoga bermanfaat.

Health Consequences of Conservation

A large conservation organization on a small Pacific island was concerned to protect coral reefs. Its strategy to create a marine protected area where the harvesting of certain species was prohibited. The protected area was set up and functioned well for a number of years before a team evaluate the effort. By chance, they went to local clinic and looked at the health records. They were astonished to find a decline in birth weights and an increase in case of malnutrition among girls between the ages three and five years. The health worker reported that the intensive logging on the island had led to a steep decline in soil fertility and thus harvest failures over the past few years. Further inquiries led to the finding that since reef fishing and shellfish gathering had been restricted, fish were given primarly to senior people and eaten by others only on feast day.

Kalo udah gini, konservasi ya kudu dibalikin ke masyarakat kali ya….. (Ijul)
